Scooter Rental:
Faretides Scooter Rentals is now in town! They use the Bird app for scooter rentals.
Visitor’s Centers:
There are two visitor centers right in town near Front Street and HWY 101: The Official Crescent City – Del Norte County Visitors Center on Front Street near the playground and the Crescent City Information Center across the street at K and 2nd. Both centers have great information about the area, trail maps, and a small gift shop. Additional information centers can be found on the National Parks webpage here: https://www.nps.gov/redw/planyourvisit/visitorcenters.htm#CP_JUMP_281933
Our favorite things to do:
Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park – This is our favorite place to go outside of the city. You’ll find it to be warmer than here on the coast most days and playing in the river is always a hit. The day use area (map) is $8 to park and there are restrooms, picnic tables and BBQs available to use. The river is calm and clean and is a great place to relax. There are also several hiking trails that range from easy to strenuous. With kids, the Stout Grove trail (map) is great. Some scenes from the forest moon of Endor were filmed here for the movie Return of the Jedi. We have not yet seen a Sasquatch or an Ewok yet though…
Ocean World Aquarium – Crescent City’s own aquarium with tide pools and the chance to pet a small shark!
Redwood Rides – Tours and rentals, family friendly! We’ve done several kayak trips with Redwood Rides and have not been disappointed.
Farmer’s Market – Seasonal market on Saturdays with local produce, milk from Alexandre Farms and produce from Ocean Air.
Beaches!
Walk on the beach! The beach access from the house is one block in either direction – the 3rd Street and down the blue spiral staircase or to 5th Street and down the straight staircase. When the tide is out, there are a TON of sea creatures to observe. We’ve seen some enormous starfish! Check the tide with My Tide Times a great, free app (Apple, Google).
If you want a sandy beach to spend the day at, go up the road to 6th Street and follow Pebble Beach Drive along the coast until you find your perfect spot! Or, head the other direction towards the lighthouse and park along Howe Dr. Further south on HWY 101 off of Enderts Beach Road is Crescent Beach. And if you’re up for more of an adventure, continue along Enderts Beach Road to the top, then hike down to a more secluded beach. Our four year old handles the walk down just fine, but sometimes runs out of gas on the back up the and needs a ride from mom or dad.
Battery Point Lighthouse – Check the tide schedule the walk across the water to the lighthouse you see right out the window here. Tours inside the house are often available. Once your done, walk over to Sea Quake Brewery for a meal.
